Was it good or bad? Were you impressed by the new movie or you wish you hadn`t seen it?

Some films I've watched recently:

Carrie (2013)
Well, the new version of Carrie was shit. Razz Chloë Grace Moretz simply doesn't have the same charisma as Sissy Spacek. I'm sure Indii will agree...

The Specialist (1994)
Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone in a laughably bad thriller. The plot holes and stupid characters made me laugh out loud so many times.

A Fish Called Wanda (1988)
This one is always great, one of my favourites.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
I remember seeing this about 15 years ago. It was ok-ish.

Only Lovers Left Alive

No plot, no drama, totally brilliant. There's a heavy romanticism in this film. Hiddleston and Swinton play brilliantly off each other. The music is amazing. It's about two vampires, but it's not a vampire movie at all.

Lots of pretentious references to cultural history, but they made me laugh quite often.

Yep, good idea for a film. Also, have to love her voice.

Yo Olli! That list of bad, bad movies we made months back is still untouched. But now I have some time off and will totally devour those ones first.

And I thought Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore were the best things in the new Carrie. Though Grace was a bit too pretty for this role (or at least in the conventional sense). Hard to believe someone like her would get bullied at school. Razz

Hehe Olli, I missed to watch Carrie with you and Gaga, now it's waiting me to watch it in my computer , maybe should not give it a try then! Razz

I was a bit unsure of Robert Pattinson's existence in 'Remember Me', so I avoided to watch it for a  long time, and saw it recently, tbh it was pretty good with a very surprising end. Pattinson was okay as well.

I just love Bergman's artistic side. Every time I watch his film it becomes my new favorite.

I'm still thinking about this one. Strong and realistic love story. One of those rare moments when you actually feel the beauty of love and suffering.

Saving Mr Banks

i honestly don't remember last time Colin Farrell looked this yummy, and i dearly love Emma Thompson, but apart from that the best thing i can say about this film is that it made me rewatch My Fair Lady, because filmwise, i always preferred that to Mary Poppins. sad to say MFL pissed me off, i can't even tell if it was the inherent mysogyny or the horrible prescriptive linguistics or the fact that i'm no longer 10 years of age, it just didn't work anymore

never grow up or never rewatch, that's my new motto

The Broken Circle Breakdown (2012): Great Belgian movie! Impeccable acting and it all seemed very natural and full of candour. Quite difficult to watch because it's incredibly emotional. And didn't know bluegrass can sound that good.

Amsterdam (2013): Story of three male friends who secretly plan a three day trip to Amsterdam and hide this from their wives. Lots of complications follow and the plot becomes highly unrealistic. Loved the bits from Amsterdam!

Filth (2013): I haven't read the book, so I can't compare it to the real thing, but it was a wicked black comedy presenting the depravity of a cop and his world. Starts off as a comedy, becomes more messed up and dramatic as it progresses. It's not a story of redemption cause everything is pretty much far gone all along. Great role by James McAvoy.

Siren (2010): Bad acting, predictable plot and boring. A real winner.

Shutter (2004): One of the better Asian horror films. The plot was pretty predictable in this one too though.

Strait-Jacket (1964): Joan Crawford did a decent job in this film but most of it is boring-ish and the twist in the end was not surprising at all. I also watched a 20-minute "making of" documentary about the film and I think it was better than the film itself.

American Hustle: It's beyond me how this has got 10 (!) Oscar nominations.... generous 4/10 in my book.

About time: Alright, bit too cheesy, expected more tragedy/ drama at some point, but every time sth 'bad' happened he just went back in time. Still liked the actors and acting, especially Nighy and Gleeson. Adams unfortunately didn't have the most complex character really, but that's not her fault. She did a fine job and i really like her as an actress (not just the visual part Wink). All in all i gave it a 6/10.

Short Term 12: Now that's my favourite film of 2013 i guess, at least Top 5. Would have liked that one to be nominated for an Oscar or two. Recommended!

Short term 12 is really good, Pindi, check it out.

-Only lovers left alive: I loved the atmosphere and soundtrack. I could just quote David on this one.

-A short film about love: ''A creepy adolescent obsessively spies on an older woman until a strange symbiosis develops between the two.''

Shutter Island (2010): Welll, it took me about 12 minutes to guess what is going to happen. Watching the film felt a bit pointless after that.

Cherry Falls (2000): Another teen slasher. Nothing special.

Half Nelson (2006): I was positively surprised! Not much happened but the plot and the atmosphere were interesting. One of the best I've watched this year.

I watched August Osage County on the plane. I liked it a lot. Definitely among my top 5 of the year.

The Broken Circle Breakdown (2012): One of the best films I've seen recently. The actors were great, the plot was interesting and the music was fantastic. It was really sad though.

exactly my thoughts. I am still listening to the soundtrack of the movie, great composition, and each song they've used were so right for the particular scene! Sad story and very profound.

Saw it too a few weeks ago, it was indeed very moving. I really love to see Johan Heldenbergh (the male lead) play, he has this mighty sonorous, melodic voice. Smile

Recently saw "We Bought a Zoo" and "Salmon fishing In The Yemen", which were also very good. The first of course features Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson, so it's pretty much a win on the cast alone; and the latter was surprisingly light-hearted and funny (though I was hoping to see more Yemen).
